After spending 21 years working in the West End of London as a dental surgeon, I decided to combine work with my love of the countryside and animals and became a farmer. After visiting the exhibition of 'Bronze Birds' at Pangolin Editions I felt inspired to create deer in bronze. The daily handling of them on the farm gave me the opportunity to study their elegant form. In 1997 I began a series of dancers in bronze capturing movement and mood of the dance as expressed by the actions of the dancers. Contemporary dance requires a different style to depict power and energy in movement, which is disguised by the graceful flowing lines of classical ballet. |
